The Old vs. The New Work World
by Dave Espino
The world of work is changing at
light-speed. Old ways are rapidly being replaced by new and improved ways of
doing business. The vast bureaucratic hierarchies of old, with their company
politics, politically correct topics of conversation and brownie point
scoreboards are transforming into the highly efficient, flowing and
ever-adjusting Home Business.
Those already in their own Home Based
Business are the early adopters, the trend setters, the pioneers. They are like
the early settlers in America, brave, gutsy and full of courage. The system, as
it stands is destined to fall. With it, will fall millions of employee
expectations about the future. Corporate hopes and dreams of old will
crumble as a symbol of an aging and obsolete concept in much the same way that
the Berlin Wall did.
This massive trend, fueled by the
Internet, DSL technology and the incredible power of e-mail and virtual
communities, will create fortunes for those previously "locked out" of
the Corporate Suites. The rewards will go to those who can develop an idea,
build a Home Based Business and run with it. Those who take the idea, apply
marketing savvy, strong work-ethic and a good ol' dose of optimism, will reap
the rewards of this new economy.
The New Economy
The phrase "The New Economy" is often used in an incorrect fashion. What the magazine writers fail to realize is that deep within the American consciousness is a recognition that the Internet is a potential goldmine for individuals. Magazine after magazine popped up in 1999, discussing IPOs, Venture Capital, Startup-to-Exit Strategy, Stock Options, etc.
The real story of 1999 was the
incredible success of Home Based Business owners!
While the media focused (again) on the glitzy stories of BMW bonuses and Stock Option Millionaires, they skipped the "less-sexy" stories of Ma and Pa earning $60,000 a year, working from home!
Sadly, many of those magazines have folded, and the Home Based Business Owner continues to thrive.
So the "real" New Economy has to do with working-from-home entrepreneurs, bootstrappers who have found a niche market to target and build their own customer base with.
When this new entrepreneur receives an e-mail from a potential customer, they are there to answer it!
When the New Entrepreneur (home based business owner) has a customer-service issue, they handle it like only a "mom and pop store" would, with personalized service, care and concern.
The New Entrepreneur cares about her business because it is her business! It is not some Joint Venture with a Vulture Capitalist in which the VC is calling the shots! (Many VCs have never taken a personal risk, let alone built a business of their own)
The New World of Work
The new world of work is a refreshing
respite from the "old grind". The old grind is so archaic and has evolved
to such a demeaning level for most workers that many of the die-hard Corporate
Types are looking into the Home Business revolution.
A Home Based Business offers so many benefits to the former employee.
Let's look at a comparison between the old way and the new way...
| Wake up at the break of dawn | Wake up when you want |
| Dress up in the "Corporate Uniform" | Dress how you feel each day, business-casual, jeans, sweats! |
| Breakfast? What breakfast? I'm always running late! | Treat yourself right - Go out for a leisurely Breakfast, it's a great way to start your day. |
| Rush out the door, only to sit in slow-moving traffic for 40 minutes | Your morning commute? 2 minutes |
| Get home at 6 or 7 PM - exhausted | Be home when your kids get home from school - excited |
| A Major Corporation controls your destiny - if they need to cut back, guess what? No, guess who? | You control your destiny - There's the pride of ownership, your ideas, your focus, your dreams! |
| Stress - It's difficult working under time-strain and an uncertain future | Relaxed work environment - You can work better when you have less stress and more time for your family |
| Wait
in lines with all the other 9 to 5'ers who can't get away during the
day:
Bank lines, Store lines, Post Office lines, Doctor's lines... |
No more lines ! Work your schedule around heavy-traffic times - Imagine the time savings ! |
As we see in the table above, the old way looks pretty demeaning when we sit down and actually focus on the many activities we are "forced" to endure as Corporate Wage Slaves.
The Old 40-40-40 Plan - Work 40 hours a week for 40 years and retire on 40% of what you earned while working - just doesn't cut it anymore.
Technology is what is allowing this broad, sweeping change and empowering individuals to once again open their "Mom and Pop stores"
It is going to be a rocket ride to the
top of the charts, and if you don't recognize the opportunity, get into the
rocket, strap on your safety harness and get ready for liftoff, you'll be left
on the launch pad.
Dare to get out there and investigate the opportunities, develop a plan that fits your particular interests and personality type.
There's a whole new world here and it's yours for the taking!
